Mad Salaries
Monday, February 27, 2006
I was watching Carteblanche last night,They had a thing about the recent power cuts in CapeTown. They spoke to a big boss from Eskom. This guy was earning around 900k a month.HOW THE HELL CAN YOU EARN THAT MUCH???Not even the president earns that much, Found this on Hellkom
"Telkom CEO's salary in 2004: R11.1 million which equates to:
R1,267/hour or
R30,410/day or
R213,461/week or
R925,000/month
Sizwe Nxasana's R11.1 million could keep 183 people employed for 1 year at R5,000 a month."
I could be happy on that salary for a short time.Maybe two three years,Then retire,Wouldnt that just be brilliant.Honestly.I dont think i could last that long. How stressful must that job be to justify that salary? What business can actually justify that? How do you explain to youre shareholders that Billyboy needs to earn R1,267 an hour.
Then you look at the other end of the spectrum,Guys and girls that scratch through rubbish dumps,Just to get a rotten meal. How can big companies that "give a crap" actually let this happen? How many low cost houses can we build with telkom and eskoms huge salaries?
I think i hear people shouting "But they deserve those pay checks".No they dont.No one that does normal office work does.Esp not the Eskom oom Thulani Gcabashe. It really breaks my heart to think this oke has so much and yet there are 5 year olds out there that have to fight to get their meals. What do those kids think of the world? What are they actually living for.Yet those households are the happiest, well amongst the happiest,Not because of material possesionis,But rather because of the love that they recieve from their parents.
Maybe Thulani and co must take a serious look around. They'd go from doos of the week to hero's in one quick swipe of the credit card
but hey thats just my idea.probably wont work.Making the last 5minutes of youre life worthless.

I can't believe what I just read. You actually do have a heart. Even if it is deep filed in the abyss....
